Mr. Freeman Madzi, Executive Director of the Abibiman Sankofa Cultural Movement (ASCUM), an NGO, on Wednesday urged the public not to relent in volunteering information on people involved in child trafficking.
Mr. Madzi said that was the only way to ensure that the practice of child trafficking would be discouraged in society.
He was addressing a Zonal Session of the Movement in Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The Executive Director attributed the causes of child trafficking to illiteracy, poverty and ignorance, among others, and called on the government to address issues of abject poverty in rural communities.
It should also endeavour to institute support for vulnerable children in the communities.
He stated that teachers and child welfare supervisors needed to be educated on child rights.
According to him, most school children in the area did not attend school on market days as they were engaged in economic activities.
He also expressed concern about the practice of giving out girls at early age for marriage in the area.
