The Independent Tax Appeals Board is set to commence work by the first quarter of 2023 as all documentation and recommendations from the Attorney General have been received.

This is an assurance from the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu Amoah.

According to him, the board will fast-track the operations of the Tax Appeals Board.

The independent Tax Appeals Board was set up about a year ago to adjudicate litigation on tax payments and settlement processes.

In an interview with Joy Business, the Commissioner-General expressed confidence that the operations of the Tax Appeals Board will contribute to a smooth resolution of tax-related matters in the country.

“The Independent Tax Board as you know has been inaugurated and all documentation is in place to get it working. The office has been set up already in Accra. We have received some papers from the Attorney General’s office and other relevant stakeholders, so very soon work will start”.

“I can tell you that the board has already received some reports which it is hoping to start with and I am sure that before the end of the first quarter [2024], they will start working on them,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance has charged the Independent Tax Appeals Board to develop a strong tax dispute resolution system that is capable of supporting the country’s revenue mobilisation drive and help build the desired Ghana.

The Minister of Finance who gave this charge at the inaugural ceremony of the eleven-member Tax Appeals Board said the board has a unique mandate to hear and speedily resolve all tax appeals made against decisions of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
