The freedom flame, a symbolism of the country’s freedom from colonial rule on Monday begun its journey from Wa in the Upper West region to Accra.
The flame was lighted in Wa as part of activities marking the golden jubilee celebrations of Ghana’s independence and is expected to travel through all the ten regional capitals and some principal towns.
Officials of the Ghana@50 secretariat say the flame is also expected to create the much needed hype ahead of the climax of the golden jubilee celebrations on March 6.
President John Agyekum Kufuor would receive the freedom flame in Accra on the eve of Independence Day and light it at the Independence Square where the independence ceremony will be marked.
