Incumbent Chairman of the UK/Ireland Branch of the National Democratic Congress is confident of retaining the position.
According to Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, his achievements over the last year make him stand out among all the other individuals contesting for the chairmanship position.
In an interview on Radio NFM ahead of the December polls, Mr. Mbalba enumerated his achievements for which he is seeking re-election.
To start with, Mr. Mbalba indicated that probity and accountability have always been the bedrock on which the NDC was established. Prior to joining the party, he stated that these are virtues he fully supports.
The incumbent chairman further said that the level of transparency put in place within the rank and file is very admirable, especially in the area of finance.
For the first time in the chapter's history, an independent body was hired to audit the account, and the findings were made public to dispel any doubt or acrimony about the organization's financial health.
Chairman Mbalba believes that this will go a long way toward ensuring that the membership has confidence in how their money is being spent.
Chairman Mbalba opined that due to his good works and achievements, the chapter has now become so attractive that everyone feels it's an easy office to run.
He welcomed all those contesting his position on board, as it was good for the democratic dispensation of the NDC, but hastened to add that what an old man sees when sitting down, a young man cannot see standing on the tallest iroko tree.
Chairman Mbalba went on to say that he has expanded the branches within the UK since he took over, and this has transformed into an accelerated increase in terms of the recruitment drive.
As a result, he can confidently state that if the NPP decides to implement ROPA today, the NDC will be able to match them boot for boot.
Indeed, the head that wears the crown is uneasy, and when one assumes a position of leadership, he becomes a public figure, and thus subject to public ridicule.
Chairman Mbalba cited several occasions when, instead of his detractors working with him, they chose to work against him, especially if the collective decisions in a meeting were not in support of their whims and caprices.
According to Chairman Mbalba, this anti–party behaviour could have easily divided the chapter if not for his years of experience in party politics and leadership qualities.
Alhassan Mbalba admonished his sympathizers and supporters not to be perturbed and swayed by all those blowing hot air, dragging his hard earned reputation into disrepute.
He accepts everything that is said because he values it; they are unavoidable byproducts of his job as chairman of the NDC UK/Ireland chapter.
Chairman Mbalba went on to say that, while most of his opponents were actively campaigning and frequently disparaging him, he still had a chapter chairmanship to run for and an election to win, and thus, in the words of former President John Dramani Mahama, he had a job to do.
The chairman stated that he is now suffering from ‘leadership syndrome’ but that will soon hit the ground with his campaign in the coming weeks.
He further stated that, "You don’t change an experienced driver that is already chauffeuring his people to the promise land for an inexperienced one on the basis of trial and error. The chapter has achieved a lot during his tenure, but there are still more stones unturned, so it wouldn’t serve the interest of the party to change his leadership now, especially going into 2024."
"We need people with concrete track records who will walk the talk and foster unity within the chapter but not create apathy and open cracks across the various branches in the chapter. Chairman Mbalba asked the delegates to vote based on experience, leadership, and accountability, and that is what he basically brings to the table having served the good people of NDC UK/Ireland chapter diligently."
