The family of a 17-year-old senior high school student has accused the Navrongo Divisional Police Commander, DSP Daniel Dery, of shielding an immigration officer they accuse of impregnating the teenager and later terminating the pregnancy.
The immigration officer, Amos Mensah, is said to have sexually exploited the girl who stayed with him whilst in school.
The girl hails from the Western Region but had to attend school in Navrongo as had directed by the computer selection process.
According to Joy News’ Upper East regional correspondent Joseph Osei, the family of the teenager had resolved to travel to seek justice in the case.
They claim Mensah forced the girl to undergo an emergency abortion at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The accused, allegedly, forcibly inserted dangerous substances into her vagina and followed it with a “hot sex” even though she was pregnant.
“She slept with me and inserted the medicine into my private part,” the girl related.
According to her, Mensah said he wanted the pregnancy aborted because he had a wife and could not cater for a second wife.
The father of the victim, Wilson Coffie, and the mother, Cecelia Boamah, in an interview with Joy News said the Kassena Nankana District Police Commander, DSP Daniel Derry, had been induced to protect Amos Mensah.
A fire officer whose name was given as Auntie Fausty reportedly posed as the girl’s mother whilst a police officer, popularly known as Jack at the Paga police station had forged a police document which said the girl was experiencing pains due to assault – all to cover the crime committed by the immigration officer.
Meanwhile, the District Police Commander DSP Daniel Dery says he only has a case of assault and not an abortion, indicating that his office, was in the process of forwarding the case document to the Attorney General’s Office for advice.
