Ghanaian musician Chief One has made a bold claim about his influence on the Amapiano genre in Ghana.

"I'm the first artiste that dropped amapiano in Ghana. I start no be today o boss, I start like music though I got that genre this, but they know me for amapiano because I'm the first artiste that drop it here," he told Andy Dosty in an interview on Daybreak Hitz.

According to Chief One, he released his first amapiano song on August 17, 2021.

"You can check everywhere, 2021 August 17. No artiste in Ghana, I dey check, I think sey yesterday I go talk for some interview and people dey try bash me," he said in Pidgin English.

He dispelled the claim that music producer Appietus may have been the first musician to have experimented with the amapiano sound in 5Five's 'Mujebaya'.

“I go check, ebe like Appietus say he drop something like that before but I never feel any amapiano for inside. I’m still the one wey carry am come. And this thing affected my like especially in the Volta Region. Positively, a lot of artistes are now doing it and they know them for that,” he said.

Chief One clarified that his Amapiano sound is unique and fuses his own style with the traditional South African genre. He noted that the Ewe's 'Kinka' sound he fuses into his music is what gives it the Amapiano vibe.

“Mujebaya no be amapiano. If you check the elements in there, e never qualify to be amapiano. Even the shaker is kind of different. Let’s forget about the South African amapiano. Me my amapiano wey I dey do, you go see say I fuse in my own sound," he added.

Chief is out with a new song titled 'Megbe' (I decline).
