President Akufo-Addo has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians who facilitate the illegal entry of foreigners into the country.
He said the act is dangerous especially at a time when the country is battling the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in a televised address on Sunday, President Akufo-Addo expressed disgust for what he describes as an ‘unpatriotic’ act by some Ghanaians.
“Even more disturbing is that several of the West Africans who have been arrested and later tested positive for the virus. These are unpatriotic acts and must stop,” he said.
Government, after lifting the three-week lockdown, stayed a number of measures such as the ban on social gathering, practice of social distancing and wearing of masks.
The closure of ports also remained intact as immigration personnel ensured that all travellers were prevented from entering the country.
However, there have been pockets of incidents where travellers have been nabbed attempting to enter at the blind side of authorities from some West African states.
Reiterating his earlier directive regarding the closure of the borders, President did not mince words when he said Ghanaians who participate in the illegal entry of foreign nationals into the country will not be spared.
“We cannot allow a few persons who are motivated by their own selfish and money-making interest to endanger the lives of the rest of the population.
"Not only will persons who enter the country illegally be strictly dealt with but so will Ghanaians who facilitate their entry,” he added.
Ghana’s Covid-19 case count currently stands at 1,550.
According to the Ghana Health Service, the latest figures include 155 recoveries and 11 deaths as of April 26, 2020.
