Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed his readiness to submit himself to any investigation into allegations of extortion levelled against him.

His comments follow allegations of extortion and related conduct made by the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, against him.

Speaking during Parliament’s emergency recall sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said he would cooperate fully with any investigation should the allegations be formally reported to the appropriate authorities.

He challenged those who have accused him of extortion to report the matter to the Police, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), or any other competent investigative agency.

“If they muster the courage to report that I have extorted from them and I am invited, I shall submit myself to every investigation so that eventually my name is cleared,” he said.

Mr Afenyo-Markin said he has already chosen to pursue the matter through lawful channels, following the allegations against him.

He disclosed that he has caused writs to be filed in two separate cases involving individuals and media organisations over the claims.

One of the suits, numbered GT 1029/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Samuel Adu-Gyamfi and Multimedia Group Limited and was filed at the Accra High Court.

The second suit, GR/ACH/CC/C5/02/2026, is titled Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin versus Eric Agjei and Peace FM and was filed at the Achimota Circuit Court.

According to the Minority Leader, he is confident the courts will make the appropriate determination on the matters.

He described his decision to submit himself to legal processes as taking the “high moral ground” in the face of the allegations.

Mr Afenyo-Markin also cautioned against what he described as unacceptable lines being crossed in political discourse.

“There is a limit to political discourse. There are lines that must not be crossed, and these red lines, once crossed, they must be dealt with,” he said.

He further defended his record as Minority Leader, saying he has served in the position with integrity, hard work and a clear conscience. “I have served in this position with integrity,” he stated, adding that he has remained faithful to the responsibilities entrusted to him.
