The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) wants swift investigations into the murder of a police officer, Lance Corporal Kingsley Boahene by suspected armed robbers.
The deceased was killed during a shootout with armed robbers Mankessim in the central region.
Residents suspect the plain-clothed officer was shot by the robbers who had earlier engaged police officers in a gun battle after they were dispatched to the Zen Filling Station where a robbery was taking place at around 4:00 am on Wednesday.
The IGP says “another crime scene team has arrived from Accra” to assist in investigations.
Addressing the media after visiting the injured officers at the hospital, the IGP James Oppong-Buanuh says all attempts will be made to bring the suspects to book.
“Investigation is being carried out... So as investigation proceeds, whatever we get, we will let Ghanaians know.”
Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ekow Hayford hinted of ongoing operations to rid the town of criminals.
“What happened is a wakeup call for us to ensure that security is a shared responsibility. If you look at the time the incident took place, it raises cause for concern. The Municipal Chief Executive together with the security capos here will intensify security measures, especially in areas, know for heinous crimes.”
