The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh has paid a working visit to the Yeji and Busunya towns of the Bono East Region to assess the damage caused after some members of these communities attacked police stations there.

During the visit, the IGP held meetings with the chiefs and people of Yeji traditional area as well as the people of Busunya in the Nkoranza North District, Gbcghanaonline.com reports.

The IGP in both meetings expressed his displeasure on the attacks and damage caused to the Busunya Police station and of two Police vehicles at Yeji.

He warned that the Police Administration will not tolerate any attack on Police officers or police property and urged the chiefs of both areas to advise the youth to desist from such unlawful acts since an attack on any Police officer or police facility will have dire consequences on the security of the area.

The chiefs and people of both areas expressed their regret and indicated that the traditional authorities do not support such criminal actions and are therefore prepared to assist the Police to bring the perpetrators to book.

The Omanhene of Yeji Traditional Area, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, on behalf of the people of Yeji commended the IGP for having personally visited the people of Yeji and indicated that the chiefs have good relations with the Police.

He, however, used the opportunity to appeal to the IGP to help in curbing the incidence of robberies in the area.

The IGP responded by announcing the elevation of the Yeji District Police station to a Divisional status and added that as a Police Division more officers will be posted to Yeji to help curb the incidence of robberies and other crimes.

The IGP who was accompanied by the Director-General, Public Affairs, Director Operations and a Specialist from the Police Hospital, also held separate meetings with Police officers in Yeji and Busunya where he commended the officers for their level of professionalism.

He urged them to be always disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

He used the opportunity to inform the personnel of Police Administration’s new policy to accelerate the promotion of officers serving in deprived areas a year ahead of their colleagues.

He added that the implementation will begin as soon as all the processes are completed.

The IGP and his entourage also visited the Yeji Catholic Hospital which was also attacked by the youth an assured the Hospital Administration of Police protection.
