Officials of the Africa Cricket Association and International Cricket Councils are impressed with Ghana’s level of preparedness for hosting the upcoming ICC Africa Affiliate Cricket league which comes off between February 24 and 28.
Ghana earned the right to host the tournament some months back though she will not be participating. Seven countries from across the continent are expected to participate in the tournament.
The Ghana Cricket Association’s biggest benefit from hosting this tournament is the opportunity to improve infrastructure especially, pitches at the Achimota Cricket Oval, where the matches will be played.
Graham McMillan, the ICC’s Senior Development Co-ordinator for Africa is in charge of running the tournament.
Speaking to Joy Sports after making an assessment of facilities and organization of the event, he said “Ghana currently is rated the top affiliate member in Africa and obviously one of the biggest Cricket playing nations in Africa.”
He said preparations had gone well so far, “so I look forward to a very positive tournament.”
Ghana Cricket Association Vice Chairman, Ben Nunoo-Mensah hopes the tournament will help generate local interest for the sport.
Meanwhile Lesotho, one of the participating teams will arrive in Accra later today.
