Head coach of the Black Bombers, Ofori Asare, says he has not received a deserving reward following his role in acquiring a medal for Ghana at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Asare led the Black Bombers to win Ghana's only medal at the competition in Tokyo following Samuel Takyi's bronze medal after a semi-final finish in the boxing featherweight division.
The medal was Ghana's first podium finish since winning bronze at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
Speaking on Joy Sports' Prime Take, Ofori Asare expressed his disappointment with the recognition he has received following the success with the team Tokyo.
"We have been rewarded. They gave something to the boxers and I was thinking I was not rewarded well from [the success of] Samuel Takyi up to the Commonwealth Games because I'm the head coach," he said.
"I was the one who made Samuel Takyi win the medal, I was the who made the other boxers at the Commonwealth Games win those medals. They gave those who won the bronze medal something more than me.
"The boxers received $5,000 but mine is lower and mine is equal to my assistant coaches. The difference didn't come out because I am the head coach, I am the one they can sack from the team. I am the one who comes out with all the programmes so I don't know why they can't understand that.
He added that although he was given a reward, he deserved more than what he received.
"They gave me something but I think I deserved more than that. Even at the Olympic Games, there are coaches who didn't achieve anything. They went there with their athletes but I was the one who brought a medal and anything they gave we shared together. It was not fair on my part."
Ofori Asare also led his team to two medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
