Another person who has expressed interest in hosting the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, apart from Jon Germain, is Kabutey Ocansey.
The popular MC known in the events circles as Kabutey My MC made the request on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z hosted by Kwame Dadzie on May 20, 2023.
While discussing the art and craft of emceeing with other guests such as Anita Erskine, Merqury Quaye, Jerry Adjorlolo, and Nathaniel Attoh, Kabutey said after observing the growth of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and how it has impacted people in the entertainment value chain, he would love to host the 25th edition next year.
“Since it is a season of shooting shots, my goal, my prayer, my desire is that for the next edition of VGMA, please call Kabutey My MC and let’s do it,” he said.
“I mean this in all seriousness. To the entire team, the management and the entire team at Charterhouse, and everybody who is involved in the organisation of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, it is a platform that I respect, that I honour, and I see much growth for everyone who has been a part of it along the journey and I feel that beyond the fact that there are important considerations for whoever hosts the VGMA, I would like to be able to put myself at the service of the team to add value to the VGMA [in] 2024,” he further stated.
This proposal comes on the back of backlash from a section of the public regarding the hosting of the year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which was held on May 6, 2023 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
Some people had complained that the MCs on the night did not gel enough, talked too much and as a result made the programme quite boring.
Kabutey My MC is one of the venerated masters of ceremonies who hosts corporate and other social events in Ghana.
With over a decade of great and effective output covering almost 800 corporate, social, religious and entertainment events, his signature service value is a favourite of business executives, celebrants and event vendors.
His mature, classy and fun engagement has delighted audiences from intimate numbers of 50 to well over 1,500; from President and International VIPs to everyone else as well as leading corporate brands via both TV and live platforms.
The VGMA in the past have had celebrated MCs and hosts such as Kofi Okyere Darko (KKD), Kwame Sefa-Kayi, Chris Attoh, Kwasi Kyei Darkwa (KKD), Doreen Andoh and Eazy.
Others are Samini, Obour, Nathaniel Attoh, Berla Mundi, Naa Ashorkor, John Dumelo, among others.
