The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for transferring power from the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the NDC in the recent December 7 elections.
According to him, political parties do not hand over power to each other; it is the people who hold the power and choose to take it from one party and give it to another.
He explained that while Ghanaians had taken power from the NPP and handed it over to the NDC, he assured the public that Mr John Mahama and the NDC would not disappoint them.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the youth of Ghana, and all Ghanaians who have taken power from the hands of the NPP. I can assure them that the John Mahama I know is a compassionate man, a brilliant man, an intelligent man, a sharp man, a nation builder who cares deeply for the country. He will not fly a private jet at £14,000 per hour,” he said.
Speaking on Joy News’ AM Show on Monday, December 16, he noted that Mr Mahama "will develop this country, he will lead us to greatness, and he will take us to the promised land."
Mr Basintale expressed excitement over the NDC's decisive victory, stating that the party had been confident of winning the election. He added that at one point, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had no choice but to concede defeat. “Dr Bawumia had no choice, looking at the results,” he said.
Mr Basintale also thanked the NDC’s IT team, led by Dr Omane Boamah, for their contributions to the collation of the results.
“They performed excellently. Within two to three hours of the election, we started receiving our results, and we knew we were in a comfortable lead. There was nothing Dr Bawumia could have held on to,” he said.
