The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang has dismissed claims that she cancelled the book and research allowance for teachers during her tenure as former Education Minister.
She said such accusations are driven by political propaganda.
"I have left the ministry and all the documentations are there. I have been waiting for four years for somebody to bring me the letter that said I had cancelled the book and research allowance," she said.
Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang said she was surprised to see a resumption of the allowance for teachers in the 2016 manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since it was never cancelled.
"As part of their achievements, the NPP stated that it has restored the book and research allowance which was never cancelled," she said.
She urged all Ghanaians who doubt her words to "visit tertiary institutions in the country to enquire school administration to equally find out" if indeed the allowance was ever cancelled.
Also, she stated that the student loan plus initiative was introduced in addition to the allowance.
The former University of Cape Coast Vice-Chancellor said she was disappointed the media allowed such claims to make the rounds without checking for the truth.
"I am also disappointed in the media for not doing their work. They could have gone out to find the truth for themselves. Every interview, I have been asked the same question," she stated.
