The outgoing president, Nana Akufo-Addo, has expressed his hope that John Mahama's incoming administration will prioritize the Agenda 111 projects.
He stated that, over the years, he has worked diligently to build a reliable health system in the country, with one of his key initiatives being the Agenda 111 hospitals, which are currently under construction across the nation.
"The most important intervention is the Agenda 111 project that we have embarked upon. I am hoping that the incoming Mahama administration will ensure that the project is completed, so we can have our health infrastructure in a sound state," he said.
According to Akufo-Addo, out of the 111 hospitals and two proposed psychiatric hospitals under the initiative, three have already been commissioned. He added that the remaining projects are at various stages of development.
Delivering his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament on Friday, January 3, the president expressed optimism that the projects will be completed in due course.
The Agenda 111 hospitals are part of an initiative by the Akufo-Addo government to construct healthcare facilities in 90 districts across the country.
The aim is to improve the country’s healthcare sector, especially in districts that lack major health facilities. However, some of the projects in certain districts are still at the foundation stage.
The initiative has cost the state millions of dollars, and the government recently announced that additional funds is needed to continue the construction.
