Ghanaian Afrobeats sensation, King Promise has weighed in on the heated debate following socialite Efia Odo's remarks about Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy during the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, King Promise came to Efia Odo's defence, emphasising that everyone is entitled to their opinions.
"We all know how Efia is, when she feels a way about something, she goes all out for it. I've known Efia even before I blew up. So it's one of those things, everyone has an opinion. And she put out how she felt and what she thought, and that's really what it was," King Promise explained on Hitz FM.
He further clarified that Efia Odo's intentions were not malicious. "I don't even think she meant any malice. I don't think she meant evil."
King Promise also shared his own experience with online backlash, revealing that he still encounters negative comments about himself.
"Do you know how many times I wake up and see a lot of similar things against me on the internet, even at that same time?"
He also emphasised the competitive nature of the music industry.
"It's a competition. Like I said, we are at war. Everyone's trying to win. And I wake up and see a lot of dirty stuff, but it's not going to derail me."
Before the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, Efia Odo sparked controversy by publicly backing King Promise for Artiste of the Year, only to see Stonebwoy claim the award on the night.
Following the controversy, Efia Odo apologised to Stonebwoy, and the two eventually made amends at the All-Black Party in Kumasi.
A video circulating online showed Efia Odo and Stonebwoy enjoying the event together and sharing a warm hug.
