Multiple award-winning Ghanaian artistes, Sarkodie says he was sceptical about the success of his first Rapperholic Concert.
Speaking at the launch of the 2020 edition of the concert, he stated that while organising the first edition back in 2011, many people had laid out plans for their Christmas raising doubt as to whether he could pull in the targeted crowd.
Sarkodie added he did not think his brand was big enough to bring in an audience that would pay money to see him perform on arguably the biggest holiday in the year.
"In Ghana, people push you but sometimes they want to see if you can maintain what you started. I was panicking."
"I will give the props to my team. It wasn't my idea they believed in it, they saw beyond what I saw myself to be," he said.
Even with the Ghana Movie Awards happening on the same night over 5,000 people came to see him perform.
The concert is named after Sarkodie's second studio album 'Rapperholic' released in 2012.
The 18-track album featured his popular singles 'Good Bye', 'One Time For Your Mind', 'You Go Kill Me', 'Living Legend', and 'Onyame Nhyira'.
It also has appearances from Efya, Chidynma, Mugeez of R2Bees, Obrafour, Jayso and EL.
Rapperholic earned Sarkodie his first BET nomination and subsequent win.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 edition of the Rapperholic concert will be held with limited audience.
Sarkodie said his team will put in place strict regulations to prevent the spread of the virus but focus more on streaming the show online for fans at home.
