The latest Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Artiste of the Year, Kuami Eugene says he has achieved his level of success because of his mother.
This, according to the “Open Gate” hitmaker, is because of a promise he made to God at a younger age to take his mother out of poverty.
Speaking on Hitz FM's Cruise Control with Doreen Avio and Mercury Quaye, Kuami Eugene revealed that God had to push his success forward so he can keep his promise.
“I am here in the first place because of my mum and this is because I made a promise to God that He should please let me take my mummy out of her need at a very young age.
"I was the last born when I said that. If I have to grow and be like 30 and make some small money and stop letting her sell, she will be like 50.
"That’s not cool. So God had to push my success early for me. He needed to bring it forward for me because if I have to do this, I have to be successful quickly,” Kuami Eugene explained.
The singer while stressing on the importance of family, said he tries to keep in touch whenever he is outside on work-related trips.
“When I fly out, I will call my big brother, and video call with my mum and tell her my experiences in that country.
"I started going to the UK, Belgium and she was super excited about it and when I sent her pictures, you can tell her excitement from her face.”
Touching on his new title as the Artiste of the Year, Kuami Eugene said his mother was over the moon with pride.
“And this Artiste of the Year, she was so happy and took it soo personal that she wanted to cry,” he said.
