President Nana Akufo-Addo has openly acknowledged the undeniable reality of the economic crisis in the country.
According to him, he has listened to the grievances of the citizens about the difficulties they are facing.
Speaking to the media during the New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Congress, on Saturday, August 26, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that the party would select a new leader capable of guiding the country out of these challenges.
“It’s difficult, I’m the first to admit it. I have said it several times, but at the end of the day I believe when the moment comes, Ghanaians will reflect on who best can get us out of this difficulty,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo emphasised that the NPP government has a strong track record and notable achievements that aim at addressing the concerns of the Ghanaian population.
He expressed his belief that after the Super Delegates Congress, the party would rally behind the new leader who would subsequently lead them into the 2024 election.
"We'll have a good record to defend, and we will have some significant achievements which will address the concerns of the Ghanaian people. I'm very confident that we are going to the elections in 2024 with good standing."
Clarifying his stance, President Akufo-Addo stated that he has not officially endorsed any candidate in the ongoing elections.
He said he has, however, been approached by some campaign leaders urging him to endorse their aspirants.
But he insists the final decision lies with the party's delegates.
“There are some who are calling for me to endorse their candidates. I haven't endorsed anybody. The election is not mine. I don't decide it, it’s the delegates in our party who decide,” he stressed.
