Human traffickers nabbed

The Tesano Police have intercepted two passenger buses fully loaded with women and children believed to have been trafficked from the Northern part of the country to Accra. The buses, a Benz bus and a Sprinter bus with registration numbers GT 3179-12 and AS 1401-12 respectively, were spotted by the police at Achimota Tantra Hill heading towards Mallam Attah Market around 9:00am Friday morning. The vehicles, fully packed with 38 women, were also carrying nursing mothers. Among the victims were about 20 nursing mothers with children between the ages of 7 months to 2 years. Two suspects alleged to have escorted the victims from Fumbisi in the Upper East region to Accra have been arrested by the police for questioning. They are Sule Musa, 35 and Yakubu Amadi, 33. The children were seated on the laps of their mothers looking weak and feeble. The women were alleged to have been recruited from their various villages by the two suspects, at a fee of GH¢70 each. Upon reaching Kumasi, the alleged traffickers boarded another bus to transport the victims to Accra. When Daily Guide got to the premises of the Tesano Divisional Police Command around 11:00a.m, the victims were seen on the compound, some looking dehydrated, anaemic, hungry and tired. The victims, who could not speak any other language apart from their native language, told the paper that they were being brought to Accra to work. They said they did not know where they were going, adding that they were being directed by the two men. They claimed they had no money to even feed since all the money they had had been used to pay for the transportation fee. Meanwhile, when the Tesano Divisional Police Commander, ACP Emmanuel Bossoh was contacted, he confirmed the arrest but indicated that the suspects, together with the victims, had been transported to the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Headquarters for investigations to commence.
