A flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei-Agyepong has weighed in on the harsh economy under the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration.
The aspirant has admitted challenges resulting from the Russo-Ukrainian war currently happening amongst other factors but he is disappointed about the level to which it is reportedly affecting the country as the government indicates.
According to him, although many countries are suffering the repercussions of the adverse international climate, barely has seen an inflation rate pegging at 54%.
“It is true that the international climate has been hostile but how many countries have had inflation skyrocket to 54%?
"And in fact, food inflation hitting the roof and our cedi only just slightly recovering from a wild tailspin last year,” he said during his campaign launch at the Silicon House, Tesano.
According to the politician, those are an indication of economic distress, cautioning that the NPP cannot afford to entrust power again into the hands of those who have let the country down.
He argues that at least five of his colleague contestants have been part of the current administration which has performed poorly.
Therefore, the party needs a “new face, a pair of clean hands, a leader to reconnect with our base and earn the trust of Ghanaians.”
Mr Agyei-Agyepong says he wants to offer hope of a fresh start for Ghana, something for which he has always availed himself.
