Hotels across the country are reopening with new safety protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Already, the pandemic has wreaked havoc to the already struggling hospitality sector with over $2 billion lost so far.
Joy Business visited two major hotels – Labadi Beach Hotel and Kempinski Gold Coast City to experience first-hand the extent to which safety protocols have been stepped up in wait for customers.
At the Labadi Beach Hotel, customers are no more to be attended to by a valet or bellboy as human interactions have been reduced as much as possible.
Visitors are to also sanitize their hands under the sanitizer stands before entering the lounge. Just in front of the reception are foot stamps on the ground to aid customers to adhere to social distancing protocols.
The sitting capacity of Labadi has been cut by half to aid enough spacing amid the coronavirus.
General Manager for Labadi Beach Hotel, Rene Vincent-Ernst, told Joy Business that “even though the hotel has suffered losses amid the Coronavirus, we have not laid down workers and we are happy about it.
"Now it is about the safety of our client and nothing else. That’s all that matters,” he explained.
The Kempinski Gold Coast City was the next stop. I was granted access to experience, first hand, the safety protocol in place for clients and revellers.
At the five-star hotel, human interactions have drastically reduced as clients are mostly encouraged to check-in online.
When it comes to room service, Kempinski has resolved not to offer room services so as to reduce human interaction as well.
Ghana’s hospitality sector has been devastated by the scourge of the coronavirus.
Millions of cedis have been lost but hoteliers are braving up for the opportunities ahead.
