James Mensah, a 42-year-old cleaner of a hotel in Cape Coast was on Friday bonded to be of good behaviour for one year by a circuit court at Cape Coast for assaulting his 50-year-old wife Theresa Afful at Nkanfoa, a suburb of Cape Coast.
Mensah who pleaded guilty, has in addition, compensated the wife with GH¢300 on the orders of the court and would go to prison for three months in default of the bond.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that Mensah lives with his wife at Nkanfoa, and that the wife had been accusing him of cheating on her and coming home late.
He said on January 6 this year, at about 2200 hours, Mensah returned home and the wife again accused him of seeing another women and this led to a misunderstanding between them.
Mensah then locked the door to their room and mercilessly assaulted her, resulting in bruises on her face, neck and eyes.
Mensah was first arraigned on Tuesday and was convicted on his plea, but sentenced was deferred to Friday to enable him compensate his wife.
