Dodi-Papase Mary Teresa’s Catholic Hospital in the Kadjebi District faces an outbreak of an epidemic if rehabilitation work on the hospital is not fast tracked.
Rehabilitation work by S. Hamza Construction Limited, a building firm working on the project worth GH¢ 50,000 (500 million cedis) has stalled for 18 months now dislodging day-to-day operations of the hospital.
Mr Stannard Issah Mahama, Administrator of the Hospital said that suspension of work to expand adults’ wards had compelled the administration to admit adults in one ward including those who are supposed to be in isolation.
He said the situation, if not checked immediately, could trigger an outbreak of an epidemic.
Mr Mahama said a 40-feet long container full of medical equipment donated by the German Rotary Doctors Volunteers two months ago has been lying idle on the hospital premises.
The items include autoclave sterilizers, beds, mattresses, theatre tables, lamps and other sophisticated medical equipment.
Mr Mahama appealed to the Ghana Health Service to track down the contractor and remove impediments that might have been responsible for his inability to complete the project.
