Seven notorious highway robbers were yesterday arrested after a shoot-out with the police in the Central Region.

The robbers had barricaded the road after seizing 15 vehicles. They ordered the passengers to lie on the floor, and went on a robber spree.

The team, according to Inspector Okoso, rushed to the place only to discover that a lot of cars had parked on the roadside while the passengers were lying on the floor.
He said the robbers upon seeing the police, abandoned the operation and took to their heels.
The security operatives then gave them a hot chase, and with the assistance of the residents, arrested five of them in different areas in a nearby bush.
Inspector Okoso stated that the police retrieved monies in different currencies from the robbers. Some the victims’ mobile phones taken by the robbers were also retrieved.
He noted that the case was under investigations and that the suspects would soon be processed for court.
