Alhaji Yakubu Bukari, Zabzugu/Tatale District Chief Executive has appealed to Ministry of Harbours and Railways to provide the Assembly with motorized boats to evacuate stranded fishermen and farmers along the banks of River Oti following the floods.
He said the overflowing river had inundated many maize farms at Mempeasem and Kokopanga.
Alhaji Bukari made the appeal when officials of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) visited flood victims in the area to assess the extent of damage caused by the rains at Sabare.
He noted that when Burkina Faso spilled water from its dams into the White Volta in 1997 without adequate notice to Ghana it affected fishermen and farmers living along the river.
Alhaji Bukari advised farming communities of Naasa, Kolikolini, Jankonyili, Gbande and Sabare to take their movable property to safe places.
