Selina Boamah Dadzie, 19, a form two student of Akim Swedru Secondary School near Akim Oda, and her parents are appealing for public support to raise 12,000 Euros, to enable her undergo a heart surgical operation.
Selina has a tumour in her heart and needs to undergo a surgical operation estimated 12,000 Euros (GH¢14,000) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
According to Dr Frank Edwin, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Ms Dadzie was referred to the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu on March 11, 2008 following an episode of heart failure.
He said a clinical examination and investigations showed "the mass tumour in the left upper chamber of the heart" and will need an open heart surgery to remove the tumour.
Dr Edwin said the Ghana Heart Foundation was ready to assist by paying 50 per cent of the amount, but the other half needed to be paid before the surgery could take place.
The parents of Ms Dadzie, Mr Christian Boamah, a mason and Madam Cecilia Otiwaa, a fishmonger, and Mr Abraham Osei Donkor, headmaster of the student have appealed to the public to help raise the remaining amount to save the life of Ms Dadzie.
All donations should be made to the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital or The Editorial Manager of New Times Corporation.
