Accra Hearts of Oak have to delay their travel plans to Benin because of non-availability of funds to cater for their trip.
A contingent of 23 players, 7 technical team members and other club officials were expected to depart Accra, Thursday February 26, 2015 to Benin to play AS Police in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Hearts won the first leg 1-0 in Accra and is expected to play the return encounter on Saturday 28th February 2015, but Hearts of Oak sources have revealed that the team’s departure has been delayed because the Board could not raise the needed funds involved.
The source disclosed that the Board expressed concerns over the late presentation of the budget making it somehow impossible to raise the needed funds to cater for the team’s hotel accommodation in Benin, fuel for the Hearts bus and other expenses which will be incurred.
“There is no money to embark on the trip to Benin. We were expected to depart Accra at 8am but the board has not released any money because the total budget for trip was presented to them too late".
"It is very frustrating but in all of that we can only hope that the money will be released on time so we can get there on time to take some rest before the game” our source revealed.
As of the time of filing this report, the Hearts team was still stranded at the club’s secretariat with no confirmed time of departure and efforts to get management on their reaction has proved futile.
