Sports pitch experts, Green Grass Technology (GGT), last Saturday handed over a newly constructed training ground to Accra Hearts of Oak football club at Kpobiman, in the Greater Accra Region.
The 100,000 dollar training grounds, which started last year through funding from Osam Petroleum, will now serve as the permanent training grounds for the club after years of shuttling between national Lotteries Park, University of Ghana and the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC).
Mr Frank Boahene, Chief Executive of GGT, who handed over the pitch to the Board of Directors of the club at a ceremony at Kpobiman, described the pitch as a quality one that meets international standards and a hallmark of his outfit.
He said the new training pitch meets the required international standards because it was constructed with modern pitch construction technologies.
According to Boahene, the club will need to undertake regular maintenance to ensure that the pitch remains in the best of shapes.
Mr Emmanuel M. Commodore-Mensah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Club, said the club has come a long way in acquiring its own training grounds and described it a step towards achieving greater heights.
He said this will bring an end to their long search for a permanent training ground and improve the performance of the playing body.
Commodore-Mensah stated that plans are in place to construct another training pitch on the vast land which was acquired by the club about ten years ago.
He said the second training pitch, which will be sponsored by headline sponsors MTN Ghana will ease the pressure on the present one.
The Board Chairman said the club plans to build a modern hostel facility aimed at keeping the players closer to the training grounds and called on supporters and other stakeholders to support them in achieving the targets.
One-time chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed satisfaction with the quality of the pitch and was confident it will boost the morale of the players and enhance their delivery in matches.
He however noted that the quality of players recruited by the club in recent times do not have the needed quality and loyalty to deliver.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said as the club gears up for the transfer market, the Recruitment Committee must ensure that quality players whose loyalty to the club cannot be questioned, are recruited for the coming season.
“That is the only way we can regain our glory on the local and international scene,” he maintained.
