The Minister of Health Joseph Yieleh Chireh on Thursday said that the Ministry was at the verge of implementing the planned official institutionalisation of traditional and complementary medicine practices into the national healthcare delivery system.
He said financial clearance has been obtained from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to recruit herbal medicine graduates from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Mr Chireh, who was speaking on the Floor of Parliament, said a herbal medicine formulary and medicines list has been compiled from herbal preparations tested at the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine at Mampong.
He said a number of health institutions have been identified to pilot the integration of herbal medicine practice into the healthcare delivery system.
Seed capital has been provided for the purchase of the initial stock of herbal medicines and what is left is to now hold orientation for stakeholders to discuss how orthodox and herbal will work side by side, Mr Chireh said.
