The severed head of the ex-policeman who was brutally murdered by the three fishermen at Akosombo has been recovered.
The run away suspect, Ebenezer Tei, alias Rastaman has also been arrested by the police.
After the murder of Emmanuel Appiah Kubi, his head was wrapped in a black polythene bag and buried at a distance of about 4 kilometers away from the crime scene.
According to the Akosombo District Police Commander, ASP Stephen Tetteh, the suspect, Felix Okpanye, initially denied any knowledge of the where abouts of the head, claiming that Rastaman and the deceased fisherman took it away to an unknown destination.
He said after intensive interrogation, Felix broke don and confessed the crime and later accompanied a team of policemen to a spot in the bush where the head was dug from a shallow grave.
The district commander said the head had been deposited at the VRA Hospital at Akosombo.
He said policemen at Aflao Border spotted the runaway suspect in a desperate attempt to cross over to Togo yesterday, apparently having seen the publication of the incident in the newspaper.
When he was questioned by the police, he claimed he hailed from Nsawam and that he was on his way to attend a funeral of a relative in Togo.
His explanation did not go down well with the police. Moreover he looked just like the picture in the publication so he was arrested.
ASP Tetteh said the Akosombo Police had been notified and some officers had been dispatched to Aflao to identify the suspect and send him to Akosombo.
It would be recalled that in Tuesday, 20 March, 2007, the Daily Graphic carried a story in which the ambition of a 27 year old ex-policeman to get rich overnight could not materialize when he was beheaded and his body dumped into the Volta River at Akosombo on March 14, this year
