Hans Adu Sarpei is convinced Ghana will certainly have a chance against Germany as the Black Stars aim to reach the last 16 at the World Cup.
Ghana will come up against the Germans in the final first-round clash on Wednesday at Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium.
Despite leading the standings in the group, one point better than the Germans and needing at least a draw to make certain their place in the next round, Adu-Sarpei expects a tough contest in the potential knockout clash but remains confident of qualification.
“Germany is a strong and an experienced team. Their previous World Cup positions tell of how strong they are. But they have a weakness too. Though strong, there is a weakness in defence. We would certainly have a chance to score,” Adu-Sarpei said on Monday.
The full-back who has played his entire career in Germany admits that it would be a nervous encounter for himself and players like Kevin-Prince Boateng who has had a previous connection with the German youth teams. But he says they would be motivated to put one past familiar faces.
“I was born in Ghana and grew up in Germany. I have played there my entire career. But this is a big game. This consolation of a win or die makes it much bigger.
“Myself, Kevin-Prince Boateng and the rest of the team must be calm and go into the game with our minds and not emotions so we don’t get red cards.”
