The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Volta Regional Women’s Conference, held in October 2024, was a powerful demonstration of unity and determination as the party’s women’s wing gathered to strategize and mobilize for the upcoming general elections.
The event, which focused on the theme “Connecting and Sensitizing the Women’s Wing in the Region and Equipping Them to Effectively Spearhead the Campaign to ‘Break the 8’ with Dr Bawumia,” was led by the Volta Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Hannah Ashade, whose leadership is pivotal to the NPP's ambitions in the region according to the women.
In her welcome address, Madam Ashade underscored the critical role that women in the Volta Region play in the party’s political machinery.
She highlighted the importance of unity and the necessity of equipping the women’s wing with the tools, knowledge, and strategies needed to ensure that the NPP secures victory in the 2024 general elections.
"The women of the Volta Region have always been at the heart of our political movement," Madam Ashade remarked during her address. "Today’s conference is a reflection of our commitment to unity and progress, and together we will be the driving force that leads the NPP to victory."
The conference, attended by hundreds of women from across the region, marked a significant moment in the NPP’s campaign, particularly in the Volta Region, which has historically been a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Madam Ashade made it clear that the NPP women’s wing would be instrumental in changing that dynamic, with their focus set firmly on rallying support for the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Madam Ashade’s leadership has been central to the growing influence of the NPP’s women’s wing in the Volta Region.
Her strategic approach to mobilizing women and engaging them in political discourse has earned her respect within the party. Under her guidance, the women’s wing has evolved into a critical force for grassroots campaigning, with women playing key roles in organizing, voter mobilization, and community engagement.
During the conference, Madam Ashade laid out the party’s plan to connect and sensitize women across the region, ensuring that they are well-prepared to lead the charge in the final stages of the campaign. She emphasized the importance of empowering women with the necessary tools to effectively communicate the party’s vision, particularly Dr Bawumia’s platform for economic growth, social development, and governance reform.
"Our theme encapsulates the resolve we need to break the 8 and secure victory for the NPP," Madam Ashade stated. "This is not just a campaign—it’s a mission to secure the future of Ghana, and women will be at the forefront of this mission."
Solidarity from the office of the Chief of Staff
The conference received further support from high-ranking officials within the party, including a message of solidarity from the Chief of Staff at the office of the President, Hon. Frema Opare. In her address, Hon. Opare highlighted the essential role that women play in the success of the NPP’s campaign, particularly in the Volta Region, where their efforts are critical to securing victory.
"Your efforts, from organizing to mobilizing voters, are the backbone of our campaign," Hon. Opare remarked. "Together, we will not only secure the votes we need but inspire a new generation of leaders across the nation."
Her message reinforced the sentiment expressed by Madam Ashade, that the women’s wing would be a driving force in the NPP’s campaign, mobilizing support and ensuring that the party’s message reaches every corner of the region.
Strategizing for Success: Empowering Women to Lead the Campaign
The 2024 NPP Volta Regional Women’s Conference was designed to allow women to share strategies, exchange ideas, and refine their approach to campaigning in the region. Participants discussed voter outreach, messaging, and engagement, focusing on effectively communicating the party’s policies to the electorate.
Madam Ashade emphasized the importance of voter engagement, particularly in rural areas, where face-to-face interaction is key to gaining trust and support. She encouraged the women to be proactive in their communities, organizing town hall meetings, door-to-door campaigns, and other outreach activities that would allow them to connect directly with voters.
"We must take our message to the people, especially those in rural communities," Madam Ashade said. "Our strength lies in our ability to connect with voters on a personal level, to understand their needs, and to show them how the NPP’s vision will improve their lives."
Throughout the conference, women were also urged to leverage their influence within their communities to rally support for Dr. Bawumia. The NPP’s campaign platform, centered around economic growth, social infrastructure, and improved governance, was a key focus of the discussions, with participants exploring how to present these policies in a way that resonates with the electorate.
Looking Ahead: Breaking the 8
As the 2024 elections approach, the NPP’s goal to "Break the 8"—a reference to the party's ambition to win a third consecutive term in office—remains at the forefront of its campaign strategy. The Volta Regional Women’s Wing, under Madam Ashade’s leadership, is poised to play a critical role in achieving that goal, with their efforts focused on building momentum across the region.
Madam Ashade’s call to action was clear: the women of the Volta Region must stand united, empowered, and ready to lead the charge. Her leadership has not only inspired confidence within the women’s wing but has also strengthened the NPP’s overall campaign in the region. With her guidance, the women of the NPP are prepared to take on the challenges ahead and ensure that the party achieves victory in 2024.
In concluding her address, Madam Ashade reaffirmed her commitment to the party’s mission and the pivotal role women will play in shaping the outcome of the elections. "Together, we will lead this campaign to victory. The women of the Volta Region are ready, and we will ensure that the NPP remains a beacon of hope and progress for Ghana."
