Hackman Owusu Agyemang is not opportunistic as some other presidential hopefuls in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer-ship race, says his special assistant, Kofi Agyemang.
He made that statement in an interview in Koforidua.
He noted that, unlike other aspirant colleagues who joined the party because they had lost their jobs under the PNDC/NDC era, Mr. Owusu Agyemang has always been and remained a strong and a committed member of the Danquah/Busia tradition.
He has been a committed member of the NPP since its establishment, and has contributed significantly to the growth of the party, Kofi Agyemang added.
Mr. Kofi Agyemang, who was reacting to a question on the issue of party loyalty, which has become a major political campaign message amongst the NPP presidential hopefuls, he observed that, his boss stands tall among all his colleagues on that specific issue.
He stressed that Mr. Owusu Agyemang is the only person to provide the party with the first six pick up trucks for the running of party activities, and also used h is property as a surety that enabled the party to raise money from the bank for the acquisition of an official NPP office.
Hackman Owusu Agyemang, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North Constituency, he told The Independent, has sacrificed resources both in cash and materials and expertise to help grow the party to what it is today.
He pointed out that, his boss continues to support the party, and has recently donated one of his buildings to the party for use as its club house.
It is against the background of such selfless support for the party that the late Professor Emeritus Adu Boahen is quoted as saying he will "scribble Hackman's name in gold."
"My boss is the only MP using his salary to sponsor needy but brilliant students in his constituency, Kofi Agyemang said adding, party officials also indicate that Hackman has facilitated employment for a good number of persons in his constituency, and I believe he will replicate that at the national level if he becomes president," he told this reporter.
Touching on Mr. Hackman Owusu Agyemang's message to the party delegates that will vote in December to choose the party flag bearer, he stated that, they have been appealing to the delegates to choose a candidate who is dynamic, purposeful and results oriented.
Mr. Kofi Agyemang believes Hackman OWusu Agyemang has those qualities and has been able to demonstrate that amply in all the various ministries he has served in President Kufuor's administration.
He therefore implored party delegates to the December congress to choose Hackman.
