In his first interview since news broke about his alleged sexual involvement with a 22-year old lady, Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is confident of riding the storm.
The player is not new to controversy, having had to deal with varied issues almost everytime he returns to Ghana for his annual post-season break.
The latest incident involves one Sarah Kwabla, who alleges that Gyan sodomised her during their two-year affair.
"All through my career, I have always contended with obstacles whenever I’m trying to do anything but I never give up because I am mentally strong. I have not always had things running smoothly for me but I try to sail through," Gyan said.
The Al Ain star was speaking in an interview at his newly built mansion around the McCarthy Hills area in Accra.
"What has kept me going up to this time is my mental toughness," he went on, confident that his history of dealing with challenges on his way to greatness will come in handy again.
"You will notice that at almost every point in my life I have had challenges. I am blessed to have been able to go through all the time so I will go through this one too, again," he told Happy FM.
Gyan then waxed philosphical.
"People may not know but my favourite kind of music is gospel. I listen to gospel songs every time and that's what inspires me and I sing them too”.
Kwabla is accusing the celebrated footballer of failing to take responsibility for a pregnancy she's carrying as a result of their affair.
Gyan admits having sexual relations with Kwabla, but refutes responsibility for the pregnancy and has asked for a paternity test. The player also accuses Kwabla, who is said to have asked for a fully furnished house, of blackmail.
A case of blackmail was subsequently lodged at the Odorkor police against Kwabla, by Kissi Adjabeng, lawyer for Asamoah Gyan but the case has since been closed.
The Odorkor Police told Joy News' Fred Smith on Thursday that the case was amicably resolved after the woman stated she had no such video in her possession.
