The Paramount Chief of Guli in the Upper West Region, has called on chiefs in the country to support JoyNews’ road safety campaign, #ArriveAlive.
Naa Seidu Braimah in an interview with JoyNews endorsed the campaign and appealed to every citizen to be interested so as to stop the increasing road accidents recorded in the country each year.
According to him, road safety is a collective responsibility and not that of only the transport stakeholders such as drivers, National Road Safety Authority or the Driver and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA).
“#ArriveAlive is a very important programme which I feel that we should all accept. The people of Ghana, must all focus on this very issue [road accidents].
“Let us see it as something that affects our very lives because even if you do not travel, your relation may travel.”
The Paramount Chief also cautioned drivers to be very responsible when embarking on a journey.
He charged them to adhere to all the road safety rules to ensure that they take commuters to their destinations safely.
JoyNews’ #ArriveAlive campaign is a road safety campaign that aims to make roads in Ghana safe for all users, with a continued discourse on why there are frequent road accidents occurring across the country.
The campaign comes as conversations on road safety reignited after a major carnage occurred on January 14, 2020, at Dompoase junction on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway which claimed the lives of 34 people, shocking the nation.
Road safety experts say at least 2,000 people are killed each year in Ghana with 2020 already having recorded dozens.
