The grand finale of the 2024 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, powered by Smirnoff, concluded in an unforgettable night filled with high-energy moments honoring Ghana’s DJs who have made a profound impact on the nation’s music scene.
Produced by Merqury Republic and powered by Smirnoff, this year’s awards commemorated the 12th edition of Africa’s Biggest DJ Night, setting a new benchmark for excellence in the industry. The event united fans and top industry names for a spectacular evening dedicated to honoring the artistry of DJs, all under the inspiring theme “United in Music.”
With an impressive lineup of nominees, the event showcased the creativity and influence of DJs who are the driving force behind Ghana’s vibrant music scene, proving that just like Smirnoff, the life of the party, these talented DJs bring energy, excitement, and unforgettable experiences to every celebration.
The highly anticipated ‘DJ of the Year’ award was claimed by DJ Lord for the second time in a row. His dynamic contributions to Ghana’s music scene have not only captivated audiences but also continually pushed creative boundaries, making him a standout in the industry. Equally, the title of ‘Female DJ of the Year’ went to DJ Mish, whose talent and influence has solidified her as a powerful force in the industry.
The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards featured numerous categories that honored DJs across various specialties, including ‘Best Discovery DJ’, ‘Best Female DJ’, and ‘Best DJ /Artist Collaboration’.
The nominees and winners in each category were chosen by the Ghana DJ Awards Voting Academy, an esteemed group of professionals from music, media, journalism, digital marketing, and public relations, who carefully evaluated each DJ’s impact on the entertainment industry.
In line with their commitment to empowering DJs, Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC provides platforms like the Smirnoff Ice Dome, an event that celebrates music and allows campus DJs to showcase their skills. This dedication is further reinforced by the introduction of the "Best Student DJ" award, which recognizes outstanding university talent and supports the rise of next generation of DJs.
Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Marketing Manager for International Spirits and RTDs, presenting both the ‘Overall DJ of the Year’ and ‘Female DJ of the Year awards, commented on the significance of the event, stating, “The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards showcase the incredible talent within our DJ community, whose passion and contributions have been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s music landscape. It’s essential that we celebrate these artists for their creativity and hard work. Moreover, we are thrilled to recognize the importance of inclusivity and diversity, particularly with the remarkable achievements of our female DJs, who are making waves and transforming the industry. At Guinness Ghana, we believe in empowering all voices in music, and we’re committed to supporting initiatives that promote this diversity in the DJ community.”
In the lead-up to the grand finale, this year's activities included the Pub Festival, which allowed the organizers to journey to regions outside Greater Accra to discover talented DJs in the selected areas. The Ghana DJ Clinic also served as the educational arm of the awards scheme, empowering DJs through conferences and various educational programs. The board also announced the reintroduction of the regional category, which had been canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, emphasizing their commitment to recognizing talent from across the country.
This year’s awards notably emphasized diversity and inclusion, particularly highlighting the extraordinary talents of female DJs who are making significant strides in the industry. The ‘Best Female DJ’ category celebrated remarkable women who are breaking barriers and reshaping perceptions within a field that has often been male-dominated. By providing a platform for these talented individuals, the awards not only acknowledge their contributions but also inspire the next generation of female DJs to pursue their passions fearlessly.
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners who made this night unforgettable, and a big thank you to everyone who joined in to support the DJs who keep us dancing. We can’t wait to see how Ghana’s DJ scene continues to evolve and inspire in the years to come.
