The Upper East Regional office of Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited has presented a cash reward of GH¢1,000 to Mr Abdul-Kassim Majeeda, a Civil Servant, for arresting two boys who had stolen the Company’s cables.
Mr. Eric Asante, Regional Manager of Ghana Telecom, who presented the cash, said stealing of the company’s cables is a major setback to its operations resulting in the loss of huge sums of money, apart from constant disruptions of services.
To curtail the problem, he said Ghana Telecom instituted the reward scheme of GH¢500 for informants who would give out information leading to the arrest of a cable thief and GH¢1,000 for persons who would apprehend a thief.
The Company has so far paid out GH¢30,000 in rewards to informants.
Mr. Asante said there were five cable theft cases pending at the courts in the region and warned such thieves to desist from the act.
He appealed to traditional authorities, Assembly members, opinion leaders and the general public to help safeguard the company’s cable.
Mr. Majeeda thanked the company for the reward and urged the general public to assist it render effective and quality service by reporting anybody found stealing cables.
