A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) members calling itself the Coalition of Concerned Members of NPP, has petitioned the national headquarters of the governing New Patriotic Party and the presidency among others to settle an existing land dispute between one Mr George Oti Bonsu and Abu Ramadan, a relative of the Second Lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia ahead of the December elections.
In the 10th July 2024 petition, a copy of which is available to Myjoyonline, the group describes Mr Oti Bonsu as a party financier, reminding the party that at such a crucial time with elections a few months away, “every party member's intellectual, financial, physical, and logistical support is required to retain power.”
In throwing more light on the supposed dispute between the two men, the group said that in the early hours of Sunday, 7th April 2024, a massive demolition exercise was carried out on ten houses located at Adjiringanor near East Legon in Accra ostensibly belonging to Mr George Oti Bonsu, “one of the highly esteemed financiers of the New Patriotic Party's activities.”
According to the group, at a press conference held at the demolition site on 24th April 2024 by some sympathizers of the NPP, Mr George Oti Bonsu alleged that the demolition exercise was carried out by the family of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, a claim the Second Lady's office has since debunked.
“He [Mr Oti Bonsu] added that the demolition exercise was done under the explicit instruction of Mr Abu Ramadan, a biological brother of Mrs Samira Bawumia.”
In the group's letter, it claimed that “Mr George Oti Bonsu concluded his statement by clarifying that the ten houses that were brought down to complete rubble cost him 3.5 million US Dollars to build.”
“Indeed, the ordinary party member is alarmed that if the above-mentioned excruciating pain was unleashed on a distinguished financier of our great party without any action taken by the party leadership, then what would be the portion of the foot soldiers and ordinary card-bearing members like us?” the group queried in their letter.
It is against this backdrop that we, the Coalition of Concerned Members of the New Patriotic Party hereby make a passionate appeal to your highly respected office to take conscious and concerted steps to resolve this ravaging impasse between Mr George Oti Bonsu and Mr Abu Ramadan as early as practicable. We are critically worried because our great party is preparing zealously for re-election in less than six months, and we need every party member's intellectual, financial, physical, and logistical support to retain power” the group noted.
“This petition is duly signed by the leaders of the coalition who are loyal card-bearing members of the NPP and are in good standing, registered voters, and others working diligently behind closed doors to address this disturbing issue, hereby petition you accordingly for redress” the letter concluded.
Those copied in the petition include the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2nd Lady, Samira Bawumia, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim, and the men at the centre of the dispute Mr Abu Ramadan and Mr George Oti Bonsu.
The petition was signed by Rev. (Rtd) Dickson Kankam Boadu, Chairman & Diaspora Representative, Nana Ekow Annan Nyarko - 1st Vice Chairman, Francis Tosu, Secretary, Zakaria Sulemana, Director of Operations and Madam Cynthia Akumoa Boateng, Women's Commissioner.
