On Sunday, August 11, 2019, at the Greater Accra Handball Association (GAHA) Emergency General Meeting, it was agreed by the executives and the house that the Greater Accra Handball League which has been absent for weeks will return on Wednesday.
The postponement of the league was due to some teams not paying their affiliation and registration fees with only the Ghana Police, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Prisons paying their fees at the time of writing.
“The league was on hold, it was on hold because of the financial difficulty and we called them [the teams], explained issues to them and now I have seen that one or two teams have started paying, which means the others will fall in line and very soon we will continue our league.” President of GAHA, Paul Kofi Yesu Dadzie explaining the situation.
The final deadline for payment of fees has been fixed for Saturday, August 24, 2019, and Mr. Kofi Yesu has stated that only the teams that have fully paid their fees will be allowed to participate in the league.
“I have been in office for three to four years now and we have teams that have failed to pay and we allow them to be part of our activities. If you don’t put a stop to it they might think that is the way they have to go and it will go a long way, whether I am the leader of the association or not, it will affect the association and we don’t want that to happen”
Mr. Kofi Yesu, however, has confidence that the teams will do their part to make the league a success “With the way we have discussed with them and the understanding they have gotten I don’t think by the end of the two weeks we will still have only three teams that will be paying, it will be more than that”
But before the league officially resumes, the 5 outstanding matches that have yet to be played since the start of the league will be cleared this week with Legonite facing Fire in the first match on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
