The first matchday of the league recorded interesting results inlcuding an upset of favourites Kotoko at WAFA. Here a five key stats from the first matchday.
1. Charles Boateng recorded the first goal of the Ghana Premier season. The WAFA attacker headed home his side’s opener after Eric Ofori Antwi had rebounded a Martin Antwi strike into his path.
2. There were 15 goals recorded on matchday 1. Out of these, only 2 were away goals with the other 13 being recorded as home goals.
3. These 13 home goals resulted in 7 home wins (WAFA, Hearts, Ashgold, Techiman, Wa All Stars, Bechem, Inter Allies) and only one away win. There were no draws on this matchday. Dreams FC were the only team to pick maximum points away from home.
4. Striker Maxwell Baako ends matchday 1 as the division’s top scorer. The Wa All Stars front man bagged a brace as he helped his side defeat Hasaacas 3-0.
5. All three scorers in the game between Ashantigold and Medeama were formerly of New Edubiase. Twins Alhassan Nuhuand Nuhu Fuseini found the net for Ashantigold while Bernard Ofori fetched the consolation goal for Medeama.
6. Johnson Owusu and Issaka Ibrahim have forever etched their names in the history books after the scoring the first ever Premier league goals for Dreams and Techiman City respectively.
