The two big giants return to league action with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko set to warm up with respective clashes before both clash this weekend.
Asante Kotoko play their first game after elimination from the CAF Confederations Cup and will look to bounce back.
Hearts of Oak will also love to maintain momentum before the Super Clash as Karela seek to maintain their spot at the top.
Here are four fixtures from matchday 16 of the Ghana Premier League you can’t afford to miss this midweek:
Liberty vs Hearts of Oak
Hearts of Oak needed a late strike by Isaac Mensah to beat Ebusua Dwarfs in matchday 15. Despite the club’s off the pitch issues, the Phobians put in a spirited performance against Dwarfs to win their first game after being winless in the previous four.
Interim coach Samuel Nii Noi might be torn between resting key players for the Super Clash on Sunday or putting his best foot forward to keep the good run going.
One thing is certain and that’s a cracker at the Carl Reindorf park. In the truncated season last year, Hearts came from a goal down to win 2-1 scoring both goals in the last five minutes of the game.
Liberty are worse off this season and currently sit in the relegation zone with just 15 points. However, two of Liberty’s three wins have come from home and Hearts will have to be weary.
The Phobians themselves haven’t been impressive on the road and have just picked up a solitary victory so far.
All indications suggest this tie will be a closely contested one but the 20-time Premier League champions might have too much armoury at the end of the day.
Stadium: Carl Reindorf park, Accra
Time: Wednesday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: Liberty 0-1 Hearts of Oak
Asante Kotoko vs Bechem United
Asante Kotoko arrived in Ghana earlier this week after failing go past ES Setif in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederations cup.
Attention has shifted to the Premier League for the Porcupine Warriors knowing they have to win all their games in hand to go top ahead of Karela.
The journey back to the top starts with a home game against a very decent Bechem United side.
The Bechem-based side sit in the top six and are among one of the four clubs to have topped the league this season.
It has been a story of two tales this season for Bechem United. The club’s away form has been nothing write home about with just one win on the road so far.
On the other hand, the Porcupine Warriors have barely won points at home with the team ranking in the bottom four for points picked from home this season.
The record winners of the league have won 10 points from six home games this season and will need to improve that if they want to compete for the title.
Stadium: Accra Sports stadium, Accra
Time: Thursday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: Asante Kotoko 2-1 Bechem United
Medeama vs Eleven Wonders
Medeama’s exploits in the market seems to have come at the right time with the club trying to save their title aspirations after a poor start.
The Mauve and Yellows had just one win under their belt after the first seven games. After a number of signings, the Tarkwa-based side are back in the title mix with five wins in their last eight.
Last weekend’s win meant that Medeama are just five points behind Karela and with new signing Ahmed Toure getting off the mark, the club could finally be heading back into the right direction.
Medeama have followed the victory over Sharks with the signing of Bejamin Arthur and Zakaria Mumuni.
Up next for Samuel Boadu’s men is a home game against Eleven Wonders who have been struggling recently despite winning their last match.
The Techiman-based side beat Great Olympics 1-0 last matchday but had not won in their previous four.
The victory moved Ignatius Osei-Fosu’s side out of the relegation zone but the job is far from done as they play an in-form Medeama side.
Stadium: Akoon Park, Tarkwa
Time: Wednesday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: Medeama 3-1 Eleven Wonders
WAFA vs Karela
A match between two teams are very conversant with the artificial AstroTurf pitches. Both teams love to attack and have scored a combined 42 goals so far this season.
Karela United have scored more with 22 goals in 15 games. Diawisie Taylor has scored 10 of those goals and is the top scorer in the league.
WAFA will have to keep an eye on the marksman who recently earned a call-up to the national team.
The Academy boys are still yet to lose a home game in 51 games, a record that dates back to 2016.
Karela are currently averaging a point per away game this season and will need more than that to ensure they stay top by the end of the weekend.
Stadium: WAFA park, Sogakope
Time: Wednesday, 15:00GMT
Prediction: WAFA 2-1 Karela United
