Accra Hearts of Oak produced a spectacular turnaround to beat Accra Lions 3-2 in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

In what was their final league match of the year, the Phobians produced a remarkable performance as substitute Mawuli Wayo scored twice in front of a capacity crowd.

Ahead of the game, the home team announced their new fan policy of allowing women and children under the age of fifteen, to attend the match for free.

That reflected in an improved attendance on their previous home matches.

Lions coach Tanko Mohammed made two changes to last Sunday's line-up for the visit of Hearts of Oak.

Twenty-year-old forward Abdul-Shakun Abubakari returned to the starting line-up in place of seventeen-year-old defender Baba Salifu Apiiga.

Tanko's counterpart, Aboubakar Ouattara also restored Saani Mohammed to the line-up, taking the place of Martin Karikari.

Otherwise, it was an unchanged eleven for from the Hearts team that beat Berekum Chelsea by three goals to one.

After what was mostly a sparring session, Hearts took the lead through Hussein Mohammed.

The midfielder rose highest to head home a Saani Mohammed cross from the right side.

Spurred by their home fans, Accra Lions tried to restore parity but found no joy before the interval.

Seven minutes after the interval, Lions drew level when Hearts center-back Kelvin Osei Asibey was dispossessed just outside the area.

Lucky Nwafor was immediately fed through and the Nigerian blitzed his way past Samuel Amofah before calmly slotting the ball into the net.

The goal against Hearts of Oak was his second in the league (the other was against Nations F.C. at the same venue) and his sixth overall.

With momentum on their side Lions kept their feet on the accelerator but could not find a way past the Phobian's rear guard.

In the 73rd minute, however, there was no stopping them, albeit under controversial circumstances.

Ezequiel Alladoh finished off a fine team move when he was played through on goal, for Lions second.

Replays showed he was offside by quite some distance. Yet, the assistant referees did not flag and allowed the goal to stand.

The Hearts bench protested the decision and in the process, said more than necessary. As a result, assistant coach Enoch Daitey was sent off in the 75th minute.
Eight minutes later, however, substitute Mawuli Wayo profited from a failed clearance to restore parity.

It was a familiar script; a long ball from Osei-Asibey, knocked down by Hamza Issah and finished by an on-rushing teammate.

This time, it was Wayo who profited, first knocking the ball past Richard Agyen before heading it beyond Lions goalkeeper, Daniel Afful.

Before Lions could recover, Wayo struck again, this time, with the finest goal of his season, yet, to settle the contest.

After receiving the ball just outside the penalty area, Wayo pushed forward and rifled one past Daniel Afful.

Afful's positioning was not helped by his center backs who appeared to block his view.

Ultimately, he failed to make contact with an effort that would have ordinarily been close enough for him to save.

Sunday's double takes Wayo's goal tally to six; four in the league and two in the F.A. Cup, making him the club's top scorer.

Hearts remain in sixth position, with twenty-five points, five behind league leaders Heart of Lions.

Meanwhile, Accra Lions remain sixteenth with thirteen points.
