Berekum Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over Bechem United in a tense Bono derby at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday, claiming local bragging rights in a fiercely contested encounter.
The visitors made a bright start and took the lead inside three minutes, with Vincent Adjei capitalizing on a defensive lapse to silence the home crowd.
Bechem responded with intent and found the equalizer in the 35th minute through a well-taken strike by Darlvin Yeboah.
However, Chelsea regained the advantage just eight minutes later when Jonah Attuquaye rounded off a swift counterattack to restore their lead before the break.
After their midweek defeat to Gold Stars, Bechem tried to score in the second half but found it hard to get past Chelsea's well-organized defense.
The result marked Bechem United's second consecutive home defeat and sees them drop to eighth in the Ghana Premier League table.
The win has lifted Berekum Chelsea to ninth place, drawing them level on points with rivals Aduana Stars. They will aim to build on their momentum when they host Nations FC next.
Bechem United, on the other hand, will be desperate to get back to winning ways on their trip away to Accra Lions.
