The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority says it may be compelled to suspend about 100 firms operating at the ports if they fail to settle their indebtedness by next Tuesday.
It says the companies, including stevedoring firms, shipping lines and handling agencies owe the GPHA almost 14 million Ghana cedis for various fees.
Public Relations Officer Joana Adda told Joy Business the authority will be compelled to take legal action against the companies involved.
“We thought that we had to do that because we had a lot of money sitting out there for services we had already provided.
“Of course we need money to pay salaries; we need money to develop the port and to pay dividends to government.
“Therefore if somebody is owing us and doing business continuously why would we not ask for our money?” she quizzed.
