The government is expected to control its spending this year in order to attain single-digit inflation.
A single-digit inflation is one of the criterion that countries are expected to meet for the West
Africa Common currency, the Eco, to start operation.
The government of Ghana has come close to meeting the other entire criterion except the inflation rate which is very much influenced by external variables such as the behaviour of the world economy.
It is feared that the government will over spend given the fact the year is an election one.
But the Head of Research at the Data Bank financial services, Mr Daniel Ogbame Tetteh, said the government could control its spending because in 2004 it did controlled its spending despite that year also being an election one.
He stressed the government had spent on major projects last year and would not need to put more money into the system through projects.
