Government wants city dwellers to paint houses

Government has directed that people or institutions located along the principal routes of Accra should clean their frontages, remove unauthorised signposts and paint their buildings before Friday, January 19, 2008. People who keep livestock on their properties are also being reminded that it is against the AMA bye-laws to rear these animals without permission, and that all such activities should cease with immediate effect. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and National Orientation and signed by the sector minister, Mrs. Oboshie Sai-Cofie; "It is the hope of government that all members of the public would comply with this directive to avoid prosecution. "The Ministry is also encouraging all Ghanaians to use this opportunity to promote the pillars of national orientation by being disciplined in keeping our surroundings clean at all times during the period and beyond, and by refraining from unproductive attitudes that will mar the occasion. "Be proud to be a Ghanaian by hoisting the national flag high at all times and in all places, and also believing in the Black Stars' ability to win by having positive and can-do-it attitude. "The government would like to use this opportunity to encourage all Ghanaians to support the national team in their bid to win the event. "We should be proud to be Ghanaians, help to portray the beauty of our country and maintain its good image by keeping in line with rules and regulations as our country hosts this very important event," the statement concluded.
