Government says it has concluded arrangements for uninterrupted supply of crude oil from the second week of December.
Energy Minister Dr. Joe Oteng-Agyei said Nigeria, Venezuela, Libya and Equatorial Guinea have all agreed to supply the commodity to Ghana.
He said the deal is part of government’s long-term agenda to ensure sustainable supply of the commodity.
Mr Oteng-Adjei said his ministry is restructuring the Tema Oil Refinery’s debt valued in excess of $600 million.
The minister said he is in touch with his colleague Energy Ministers in the four countries to ensure the terms of agreement reached with them come into fruition.
The Tema Oil Refinery has not had oil since September last year resulting in persistent fuel shortage in parts of the country.
Many local banks have refused to grant government Letters of Credit or LCs to import crude because of piled up debt.
Dr Oteng-Agyei said plans are underway to get TOR to run two shifts to be able to contain supplies from the four countries, effective December 10.
TOR workers last week urged the President to sack the Energy Minister saying he is incompetent.
But in reaction, Dr Oteng-Adjei said his competence is beyond measure, adding, he would be the first to resign if his actions had contributed to the fuel shortages and the challenges facing TOR.
The Energy Minister who described himself as “very analytical” added that he secured a first class in Electrical Engineering at university, a feat that makes the president trust him with important national assignments.
He said the agitations by the refinery’s workers were borne out of a growing frustration over the absence of crude.
