Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that government has discovered where the secessionists are getting funds for their activities.
He said that government is aware of who may be behind the offensive actions.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah was speaking at a press briefing on Sunday where he updated the public on the security issues regarding a recent attack by a secessionist group in the Volta Region, among other concerns.
He disclosed that “the various agencies are moving in as part of the comprehensive plan to deal with the phenomenon as well as moving in to deal with their source of funding, persons who we believe are associated with the funding of this group.”
His comment comes to clear speculation that government is unaware of the activities of the group including those funding them.
The group is demanding that it is given its freedom to break away from Ghana so it becomes an independent country.
The Offoase Ayeribi MP said the security agencies are on top of issues and there is no cause for alarm.
On the issue of the plebiscite, he said claims that the plebiscite is time bound which allows for opting out is false.
He added that it is also not true that the majority of the people part of the plebiscite voted not to be part of Ghana.
“I think about 58 per cent or so, voted to be part of Ghana and it was not time bound”, the Information Minister said.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah also stated that the matter was a historical record that was well settled.
According to him, the movement of the people into some other places not known to be part of the plebiscite indicates that there is a motive beyond some of the claims that are being made.
He, however, assured that the security agencies are dealing with their aspect and will deal with it purely as a criminal one.
